Superb BandB in St Bees

Lovely BandB. A warm welcome and tea in the garden!

On the train from Lancaster

After a very fast but hugely crowded train journey from Waterloo to Lancaster, we are now on a 2 carriage much slower train . St Bees is the 24th stop ! But the little stations are charming with greystone walls and hollyhocks and at Carnforth,  Andrew saw some  exceedingly old railway carriages. The Irish sea glints in the distance and there are salt marshes, sheep and wooded hills. Great views from the train windows. This entry has little to do with The Coast to Coast walk but I am practising how to use the Nexus so that when really weary and worn ,sitting on some B and B floor , I shall know what to do when I have no patience with all things new! Jen is asleep over her book, Pat is reading and Andrew is on his ipad. No WiFi so I hope to put this on the blog once in St Bees where we are due to be met by the BandB hosts driving a green Skoda.

A Worthy Cause

Just wanted to point out that the Coast to Coast is serving a bigger purpose than our fitness and sore feet! We are walking the 200 miles in aid of the Garden Route Children's Trust thereby hoping to feed many hungry children in South Africa. Do look at our website : www.grct.org.uk.  And if you feel inclined please sponsor us on www.justgiving.com/PandP-Fleming  or www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Jenny-Jennings

The photos are of children eating e'Pap , a very nutritious porridge used to feed children on the Garden Route. You will find links to our beneficiaries on our website where you can read about the great work they do.

Training walk : 15 miles on the North downs Way on Saturday 24 August

The Jennings have been walking in other regions such as the Black Mountains while the Flemings (disinclined to take out the car) have walked to Garson's Farm in Esher and back, 3 times in the last 10 days - all the way through woods crossing only 3 roads en route. However, on Saturday the intrepid? four joined forces for an official practice walk of 15 miles from Guildford to Dorking. The North Downs Way and the wet weather was good practice for the BIG one. We catch the train up to St Bees on Saturday next and will meet at Waterloo at 10.10am to travel to Euston and northwards. Thank you to Andrew whose impeccable timing got us bargain price rail  tickets. That 3 of us are senior citizens knocked down the price too. No prizes for spotting the young one among us! This week is the time to buy the blister plasters, do the packing and eat and sleep well, interspersed with work and shorter walks.

Walking in France

We have just returned from 5 days walking in the Tarn valley in France doing 16-17 kilometres a day. Good practice for the BIG One! but we do need to get some longer walks under our belts before we set out on 1 September.
